Step 1 swallow hole formation As river flows over limestone,water widens joints on rock through carbonation
Step 2 swallow hole formation Eventually,river dissapears from surface,and begins to flow underground along the bedding plates
What are bedding plates Bedding plates are the horizontal spaces between layers or strata in limestone rock
Step 4 swallow hole formation Carbonation and hydraulic action enlarge joints and bedding plates
Step 5 swallow hole formation River continues to flow underground,this helps form underground karst features e,g passages or caves
What size are swallow holes? Swallow holes vary in size depending on how large or small the river is
