| Integration | bringing together of people of different races |
| Injustice | something that is not fair, or right |
| Relationship | the way two or more people or things are related or connected |
| Expand | to grow or get bigger |
| Nonviolent | Using a peaceful methods like marches to bring about social change |
| Protest | When people join together to express that they disagree with something |
| Sit-In | A form of protest where people sit down in a place (like a "whites-only" lunch counter) and refuse to leave until they are served or arrested. |
| Equality | When all people have the same rights and opportunities |
| Justice | Fairness - everyone is treated in a fair and equal manner |
| Citizen | A person who is an official member of a country and has certain rights because of that |
| Riot | when a large group of people gathers and behaves in a violent, noisy, or uncontrolled way. It can be a form of protest where people damage property and/or harm others |
| Tension | a feeling of nervousness, anger, or fear between different groups of people. |
| Racism | The belief that one skin color (race) is better or worse than others. |
| Prejudice | having an unfair opinion or "pre-judging" someone before you actually know them. |
| Unconstitutional | A law or act that goes against the rules of the U.S. Constitution. |
