TermDefinition
Spyware a type of malicious software (malware) that secretly installs on devices—computers or phones—to steal sensitive personal data, such as passwords, bank details, and browsing habits, without the user’s consent.
Dumpster Diving search through dumpsters or similar trash receptacles for edible food or items of value.
Firewall a network security system that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing traffic based on established security rules
Forgery the action of forging or producing a copy of a document, signature, banknote, or work of art.
Fraud wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
Identity Theft occurs when someone steals your personal information—such as your name, Social Security number, or financial details—to commit fraud, such as opening accounts, stealing money, or obtaining services without your permission.
Peer-To-Peer denoting or relating to computer networks in which each computer can act as a server for the others, allowing shared access to files and peripherals without the need for a central server.
Phishing a type of cyberattack where scammers impersonate legitimate entities—such as banks, employers, or trusted services—via email, text, or phone to steal sensitive information like passwords, credit card numbers, and login credentials.
Shoulder Surfing the practice of spying on the user of an ATM, computer, or other electronic device in order to obtain their personal access information.
Snail Mail the ordinary postal system as opposed to email.
Scams a dishonest scheme to gain money or possessions from someone fraudulently, especially a complex or prolonged one
Anti-Virus Software a security program designed to prevent, detect, and remove malicious software (malware) such as viruses, ransomware, worms, and spyware from computers, laptops, and mobile devices.
Better Business Bureau a private, non-profit organization founded in 1912 that promotes marketplace trust by accrediting businesses, mediating consumer complaints, and rating company performance
Federal Trade Commission is an independent U.S. government agency created in 1914 to protect consumers and promote competition.
Equifax "Big Three" nationwide credit reporting agencies—alongside Experian and TransUnion
Transunion "Big Three" American consumer credit reporting agencies, alongside Equifax and Experian,
