Ocean zones

TermDefinition
Intertidal zone Animals must be able to survive above and below water
Neritic zone Shallow, "coastal", fishing area, known as the most "productive "due to photosynthesis
Oceanic zone Photosynthesis occurs here near the surface because of the sun; includes everything outside of coastal area
Abyssal zone Lowest level of ocean; no sunlight can reach here so organisms must survive in cold temps/lots of pressure
Benthic zone Organisms found along the bottom of the ocean, live on organic matter from the surface; bottom feeders
