TermDefinition
Estuary The area where a river meets an ocean and contains a mixture of freshwater and salt water
Wetland Regions that are wet for all or most of a year. Found in regions that lie between landmasses and water
River/Streams Characteristics Freshwater that can be large or small. Home to many different kinds of wildlife with a high nutrient level
Climate Typical weather pattern over a long period of time
Permafrost Soil that is permanently frozen
Precipitation examples all liquid and solid water particles that fall from clouds and reach the ground - rain, snow, sleet, hail
Terrestrial Referring to Earth or land
Biome A group of similar ecosystems
Deciduous "Lose leaves every year"
Elevation How high a land is above sea level
Vegetation Plant life
Evergreen Trees stay green all year - does not lose leaves, keeps leaves all year
Conifer Trees that produce seeds in cones with "needle shaped" leaves
Aquatic Water
