PNS Test 3
A&P
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Sensory Division | To brain, afferent |
| Motor Division | Away from brain, efferent, somatic and motor nervous system |
| somatic nervous system | what we tell muscles to do |
| motor nervous system | involuntary, split between sympathetic (!!!) and parasympathetic :) |
| fascicle | wrapping around a nerve like the wrapping around electrical cord in houses. |
| nerve anatomy | axon, myelinated or not, connective tissue called endoneurium, bunch of these wrapped in perineurium (fascicle) fascicles surrounded by epineurium. |
| 3 layers of nerve bunches | endoneurium, perineurium, and epineurium |
| 3 categories of nerve anatomy directions | afferent, sensory, towards CNS Efferent, motor, away from CNS Mixed, both |
| Cranial nerve 1 | Olfactory |
| Cranial Nerve 2 | Optic |
| Cranial Nerve 3 | Occulomotor |
| Cranial Nerve 4 | Trochlear |
| Cranial Nerve 5 | Trigeminal |
| Trigeminal branches, (3) | Opthalmic Maxillary Mandibular |
| Cranial Nerve 6 | Abducens |
| Cranial Nerve 7 | Facial |
| Cranial Nerve 8 | Vestibulocochlear |
| Cranial Nerve 9 | Glossopharyngeal |
| Cranial Nerve 10 | Vagus |
| Cranial Nerve 11 | Accessory |
| Cranial Nerve 12 | Hypoglossal |
| Mnemonic for 12 nerves | On Occasion Our Trusty Truck Acts Funny, Very Good Vehicle AnyHow |
| Mnemonic for 12 Nerve sensory, motor, or both | Some Say Marry Money, But My Brother Says Big Brains Matter More |
| Motor always has a little? | Sensory, proprioception |
| Olfactory Nerves #1 | bipolar nerves from olfactory bulb to nasal passage, purely sensory |
| group of nerves in nasal passage called? | Olfactory nerve, left and right |
| Optic Nerves #2 | Eyeballs to brain, for vision, purely sensory |
| Oculomotor Nerves #3 | Skeletal muscles of eye, chiefly motor, with some proprioception |
| trochlea means | pulley |
| Trochlear Nerve #4 | Operates the superior and inferior oblique muscles of the eye, on pulleys. Primarily motor nerves, with some sensory (proprioception) |
| Extrinsic vs intrinsic | Extrinsic, not a part of the eye, but influences its actions Intrinsic, part of eye, found in, such as pupil dilation and constriction |
| Trigeminal Nerve #5 | Opthalmic, Maxillary, and Mandibular Divisions of face |
| Ophthalmic Division | Sensory |
| Maxillary Division | sensory |
| Mandibulary Division | Motor for mastication, sensory |
| Abducens nerves #6 | Abducts, takes away eye from midline for extrinsic eye muscles. primarily motor, some sensory |
| Facial Nerves, #7 | Motor impulses to skeletal muscles in face minus chewing muscles. parasympathetic impulses to lacrimal tear glands, nasal, and palatine salivary glands. Sensory impulses from taste buds for part of the tongue. |
| Vestibulocochlear Nerves #8 | Mostly sensory, equilibrium and hearing, small motor for adjustment and dampening of sound |
| Glossopharyngeal Nerves #9 | Mixed Nerves that innervate part of tongue and pharynx, parotid salivary glands. Sensory fibers conduct taste and general sensory impulses. Chemoreceptors check O2 and CO2 to tell brain how to change breathing rate and depth. |
| Vagus Nerve #10 | Mixed Nerves down into viscera. Almost all are parasympathetic. (relaxed) |
| Accessory Nerves #11 | Below Foramen magnum, 12 pairs. Supply primarily motor nerves to move head and neck, with sensory for proprioception. |
| Hypoglossal Nerves #12 | Mixed, primarily motor. Muscles under tongue, with sensory for proprioception. Voluntary. |
