author's purpose the reason an author writes a piece: to entertain, inform, or persuade
simile a comparison of two things using the words "like" or "as"
nonfiction a book or article that is true
response answer or reply
conflict a problem
suffix a group of letters placed at the END of a word that changes the meaning
metaphor a comparison of two things WITHOUT using "like" or "as"
theme the message about life or nature that the author is trying to get across; lesson/moral of the story
