Kinetic Energy Form of energy empowering matter in motion
Potential Energy The energy possessed by matter because of its positioning
Chemical Energy Energy stored in chemical bonds
Mechanical Energy Energy stored in physical systems like machines or the human body
Radiant Energy Energy released as waves instead of matter
Electrical Energy Supplied by electrolytes in body cells, this energy contributes to voltage changes that transmit impulses through nerve and muscle cells
Reactant One or more substances that enter a reaction
Product The result of a chemical reaction
Synthesis Reaction A reaction that results in the joining of components that were formerly separate
Decomposition Reaction The breaking down of something larger into smaller parts
Exchange Reaction A reaction in which both synthesis and decomposition occur, and the reactants are rearranged
Concentration The number of particles within a space
Catalyst Increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being changed itself
Enzyme A catalyst composed of protein or RNA that lower the energy requirements of chemical reactions
Activation Energy The threshold which must be reached for a chemical reaction to take place
