explanatory fiction explain and contributes nothing to a functional account or understanding of the phenomenon, such as intelligence or cognitive awaremess
Classical Conditioning Process of pairing neutral stimulus with unconditioned stimulus and concerns visceral responses (reflexes)
Operant Conditioning Process of learning to associate behavior with a consequence using reinforcement and punishment and also concerns voluntary behavior
hypothetical construct a presumed but unobserved process or entity (i.e. Freud's id, ego and superego)
experiment a carefully controlled comparison of the of some measure of the phenomena of interest (the dependent variable) under two or more different conditions (independent variable) differs from one condition to another
