Personal religion definition Religion is a way of life people believe in that influences their morals and ethics.
What are substantive definitions of religion? Substantive definitions aim to explain what the religion is (e.g. beliefs, sacred texts, Gods).
What are functional definitions of religion? Functional definitions of religion aim to explain what the religion does for society (e.g. identity, culture, ways of think/acting/being).
What are the sociological functions of religion? -Giving meaning and purpose -Reinforcing social unity -Positive social change -Promoting wellbeing -Agent of social control of behaviour
