Difference between the type of enuresis Primary nocturnal enuresis- 3x more frequently in boys, often disappear w/o intervention Diurnal enuresis- shy children or w/ ADHD daytime wetting Secondary enuresis- bladder trained child becomes incontinent
Interventions/treatment plan for a teen w/ ADHD Small, structured classes and firm but nonjudgemental teachers. Positive reinforcement. Behavioral therapy.
What is a conduct disorder and what would be including in the plan of care for treatment? Characterized by defiance of authority and aggressive behaviors towards others. Stabilizing home environment, improve family interactions and disciplinary techniques.
What is a major goal of therapy w/ chemical dependency in adolescents Prevention and early recognition
State and describe the stages of chemical dependency Experimentation- drugs are used for the first time within comfort of peers. Actively seeking- looks forward to and seeks out mood changes by chemicals Preoccupation- believes they cannot cope w/o chemicals Burnout- focus is to prevent negative feelings
What is exploitation and apply it to real life situation Use of an individual for selfish purposes, profit or gain. Children who must labor w/ no time for study or play.
What is neglect? Not meeting a child's basic need for food, clothing, shelter, love and belonging.
Conditions that most commonly place older adults at risk for overdose and severe reactions of medications Reduced kidney function and liver metabolism function
What are manifestations of an adolescent who has depression Moodiness, decreased social activity, hopelessness, difficulty in thinking, inability to concentrate, loss of energy, eating and sleeping problems
What is sundown syndrome? A group of behaviors characterized by confusion, agitation, and disruptive behaviors that occur late in afternoon or evening.
What are the stages of Alzheimer's Disease and what are the care responsibilities during each stage? Early stage- short term memory loss, inability to learn, process and retain information, language problems Middle stage- can't recall poor process new information. Aphasia, apraxia Late stage- inability to do anything End stage- slip into coma
How is clonidine used to treat ADHD as an off label use and what can happen to a client if they stop the medication abruptly? It's non-stimulant and helps manage impulsivity. Rebound hypertension can occur
What are breath holding spells and it occurs between what ages? Child becomes frustrated or upset and begins to cry but no sound emerges. They stop breathing, turn blue and become unresponsive. 6 months- 5 yrs
Client has delirium due to UTI. What findings would you expect to find as their nurse? Confusion, altered mental status, trouble paying attention, unorganized thinking, decreased level of alertness
What should you be aware of being a nurse w/ those clients taking donepezil (Aricept) for early stage Alzheimer's? Insomnia, high or low BP, urinary problems, seizures, dizziness, diarrhea, rash, cough
Manifestations of bulimia? Intense dieting, secret binge episodes, intense guilt or depression following binge
Warning signs of teen suicide Loss of interest, pushes limits, isolation, hints about intentions, withdraws from family interactions, becomes secretive, emotional highs and lows, changes in personal hygiene
Manifestations of somatoform disorder Headaches, upset stomach, pain
Adverse effects of atomoxetine taken for ADHD Higher risk of suicide, liver dysfunction, low BP, nausea, mood swings, decreased appetite
Six D's of confusion Delirium, damage, deprivation, drugs, depression, dementia
