ectropion outward turning of the eyelid, away from the eye
enucleation removal of an eye
esotropia inward turning of the eye, toward the nose
exotropia outward turning of the eye, away from nose
miosis abnormal contraction of pupil
miotic drug that causes abnormal contraction of pupil
mydriasis abnormal dilation of pupil
mydriatic drug that causes abnormal dilation of pupil
nystagmus involuntary back and forth movmement of the eyes
papilledema swelling of the optic nerve where it enters the retina
pterygium (ter-IJ-ee-um) winglike growth of conjunctival tissue extending to the cornea
scotoma dark spot in the visual field
sensorineural hearing loss hearing loss caused by sound not being transmitted from the inner ear to the brain (due to problems with sensory organs or nerves)
strabismus condition where the eyes deviate when looking at the same object
tinnitus ringing in the ears
tonometer instrument for measuring tension or pressure in the eye
trichiasis (trik-AI-ah-sis) condition cauused by eyelashes growing backward and coming in contact with eye
vertigo sensation of moving through space while stationary
analgesic (AN-al-JEE-zik) drug that relieves pain
anti-inflammatory drug that opposes inflammation
antipyretic drug that opposes fever
atrophy underdevelopment, decrease, loss of muscle tissue
closed reduction returning bones to their proper position without surgery
computed axial tomography (CAT/CT) imaging procedure using a computer to produce cross sections along an axis
crepitation crackling sound heard in joints
effusion fluid buildup
external fixation fixation of a fractured bone from the outside (casts, splints, stabilizers)

hypertrophy overdevelopment of muscle tissue

spinal stenosis abnormal narrowing of the spine
