population A number of the same species living in a certain area, at the same time
Community Multiple populations of varying species live in a specific geographic area
Biome A large community of vegetation and wildlife adapted to a specific climate i.e.forests, ponds, reefs, and tundra
Ecosystem Systems including living factors (biotic) interacting with non-living (abiotic) factors
Autotrophs Organisms that make their own food using inorganic materials and energy sources, such as nitrogen or sunlight, aka producers
Heterotrophs Organisms that eat other living organisms in order to obtain energy, aka consumers
Detrivores Organisms that use organic compounds from producers and consumers. typically dead ones, for energy sources, aka decomposers
Cultural Carrying Capacity The maximum number of individuals of a species that the human population will tolerate
Biological Carrying Capacity The maximum number of living organisms a given area can support at a specific time without upsetting the ecosystem
