A&P Chapter 2 S2
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Molecule | A more or less stable chemical bond between two atoms |
| Bond | A weak or strong electrical attraction that holds atoms in the same vicinity |
| Compound | A bond between two or more atoms of different elements |
| Ion | An atom that has an electrical charge |
| Anion | Negatively charged ion |
| Cation | Positively charged ion |
| Ionic Bond | An ongoing association between ions of opposite charge |
| Covalent Bond | Ions share electrons in a stable relationship. They do not permanently lose or gain electrons, just temporarily swap. They are stronger than ionic bonds |
| Polar Molecule | A molecule which has regions that have opposite charges. Caused by atoms sharing electrons unequally |
| Hydrogen Bond | A weakly positive hydrogen bond that is already bonded to one electronegative atom is attracted to another electronegative atom in another molecule |
