Know these terms in order to demonstrate your knowledge!

passage a text
exerpt a small piece of a text taken from a larger text
narrative a text that tells a story
expository a text that is explaining something
prompt a specific question with instructions on how to respond
summary a consice paragraph that retells what a text was mostly about
main idea the big idea or most important point of an informational text
theme the big idea or important message of a story
moral the lesson of a story, usually in a fable
genre a type of writing
essay a multi-paragraph expository response
compare and contrast finding similarities and differences
point of view who is telling a story
third person point-of-view an outside narrator telling a story
first person point-of-view a character telling their own story using "I"
support provide evidence and proof
