Natural Selections

The study of trait variation in different populations

TermDefinition
Species A group of organisms that are physically similar and can reproduce with each other to produce offspring.
Population A group of organisms of a species living in the same environment over time.
Trait A characteristic of an organism; many traits are inherited (genetic).
Environmental Conditions Variables in the environment such as food and water availability, water quality, temperature, air quality, topography, habitat, and natural hazards.
Probability The chances or likelihood that something will happen.
descendant species a more recent species that evolved from an ancestor population
common ancestor population an older population from which two or more newer species descended
