The study of trait variation in different populations
| Term | Definition |

| Species | A group of organisms that are physically similar and can reproduce with each other to produce offspring. |
| population | the total number of people, animals, or organisms living in a specific area or belonging to a specific group |
| trait | a distinguishing quality, characteristic, or inherited feature that defines a person, organism, or object. |
| environmental | describes things relating to the natural world (air, water, land, organisms) or the surroundings in which someone lives. |
| conditions | the state, quality, or physical status of a person or thing, a requirement or restriction (stipulation) within an agreement, or the external circumstances surrounding an event (e.g., weather) |
| probability | the measure of the likelihood that an event will occur, expressed as a number between 0 (impossible) and 1 (certain). |
