QuestionAnswer
What is learning? A relatively permanent change brought about by repeated experiences in that situation.
Biopsychosocial influence? Bio-genetic predispositions psychological: personal experience and associations cultural: norms, attitudes, and behavior
Who created Classical Conditioning? Pavlov
What is Classical Conditioning? Making an association (learning) a response to a stimuli.
What is unconditioned/neutral stimulus? Just a regular stimulus. Ex: a burger. Nothing associated with it.
What is unconditioned/neutral response? The natural response to that stimulus. ex: drooling when you smell the burger.
What is conditioned stimulus? originally an unconditioned stimulus (burger) that was paired with a conditioned response.
What is extinction? The weakening and eventual loss of a learned response
Spontaneous recovery? The sudden regaining of a lost response
Generalization? extension of reacting similarly to similar stimuli (ex: getting excited for a trip to the beach b/c it reminds you of the lake)
Discrimination? a change in response to one stimuli but not the rest (or opposite). ex: scared of big spiders but not small.
What is continuous reinforcement? Giving the reinforcement each time the desired response is given.
What is fixed ratio schedule? Giving reinforcement after a set # of desired responses is given.
What is fixed interval (time) reinforcement? Giving reinforcement after a fixed amount of time passes.
Variable interval? Ex: checking hw at random times
Variable ratio? reinforcement happens randomly.
What is a reinforcer? anything that increases the chance of abehavior happenign again
What is positive reinforcement? Something is added to increase behavior. ex: buying ice cream every time i pass my test.
What is negative reinforcement? Something is done to remove an undesired situation and is done again in similar circumstances. Ex: taking aspirin to get rid of a headache. it works, then do it all the other times you get a headache
Positive Punishment: Adding something undesirable in order to lessen a behavior. ex: chores for cursing.
Negative punishment: Taking something desirable away in order to less a behavior. ex; taking away phone for cursing
Who created Operant Conditioning? Skinner. It is associating learning process with reward or punishment.
what is primary reinforcer? something you naturally value (like fav food, sleep.
What is secondary reinforcer? something you learned to value (ex: money)
