chapter 5 learning
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is learning? | A relatively permanent change brought about by repeated experiences in that situation. |
| Biopsychosocial influence? | Bio-genetic predispositions psychological: personal experience and associations cultural: norms, attitudes, and behavior |
| Who created Classical Conditioning? | Pavlov |
| What is Classical Conditioning? | Making an association (learning) a response to a stimuli. |
| What is unconditioned/neutral stimulus? | Just a regular stimulus. Ex: a burger. Nothing associated with it. |
| What is unconditioned/neutral response? | The natural response to that stimulus. ex: drooling when you smell the burger. |
| What is conditioned stimulus? | originally an unconditioned stimulus (burger) that was paired with a conditioned response. |
| What is extinction? | The weakening and eventual loss of a learned response |
| Spontaneous recovery? | The sudden regaining of a lost response |
| Generalization? | extension of reacting similarly to similar stimuli (ex: getting excited for a trip to the beach b/c it reminds you of the lake) |
| Discrimination? | a change in response to one stimuli but not the rest (or opposite). ex: scared of big spiders but not small. |
| What is continuous reinforcement? | Giving the reinforcement each time the desired response is given. |
| What is fixed ratio schedule? | Giving reinforcement after a set # of desired responses is given. |
| What is fixed interval (time) reinforcement? | Giving reinforcement after a fixed amount of time passes. |
| Variable interval? | Ex: checking hw at random times |
| Variable ratio? | reinforcement happens randomly. |
| What is a reinforcer? | anything that increases the chance of abehavior happenign again |
| What is positive reinforcement? | Something is added to increase behavior. ex: buying ice cream every time i pass my test. |
| What is negative reinforcement? | Something is done to remove an undesired situation and is done again in similar circumstances. Ex: taking aspirin to get rid of a headache. it works, then do it all the other times you get a headache |
| Positive Punishment: | Adding something undesirable in order to lessen a behavior. ex: chores for cursing. |
| Negative punishment: | Taking something desirable away in order to less a behavior. ex; taking away phone for cursing |
| Who created Operant Conditioning? | Skinner. It is associating learning process with reward or punishment. |
| what is primary reinforcer? | something you naturally value (like fav food, sleep. |
| What is secondary reinforcer? | something you learned to value (ex: money) |
