TermeDefinition
Clincher explains the universal message and leaves the reader with some sort of message/idea/thought
Introduction paragraph includes hook, background info, and a thesis statement
Body paragraph(s) things that support the thesis, 8 sentences minimum
Concluding paragraph explains the final idea/message
Background info explain information that will be needed to understand the paragraph
Thesis statement one sentence that explains the main focus of the essay
Topic sentence a sentence with a subject/opinion
Commentary sentences that explain why the facts or evidence supports your subject and opinion. The “so what?” It should start with this shows....or this also shows....
Concluding sentence the final line in a paragraph that wraps up main ideas and re-phrases the subject and opinion.
Re-stated thesis use new words to rephrase and reemphasize what you set out to prove in your essay. (1-2 sentences)
Reflection summarize the three body paragraphs/main points. Do not include any new concrete details….simply reflect on the points you made in the essay. (2-3 sentences)
