| Natural Resource | Something on Earth that living things use to meet their needs |
| Ores | Deposits of minerals that are large enough to be mined for a profit |
| Renewable Resources | Resources that can be replaced by natural processes in a relatively short amount of time |
| Nonrenewable Resources | Natural resources that are being used up faster than they can be replaced by natural processes |
| Subduction Zones | Areas where one tectonic plate sinks beneath another |
| Soil | The loose weathered material in which plants grow |
| Porosity | The amount of pore space in a material |
| Permeability | The measure of water's ability to flow through sediment and rock |
| Mining | The process by which commercially valuable resources are removed from the Earth. |
| Groundwater Overdraft | Where groundwater is withdrawn from aquifers faster than natural recharge can replace it. |
