TermDefinition
Natural Resource Something on Earth that living things use to meet their needs
Ores Deposits of minerals that are large enough to be mined for a profit
Renewable Resources Resources that can be replaced by natural processes in a relatively short amount of time
Nonrenewable Resources Natural resources that are being used up faster than they can be replaced by natural processes
Subduction Zones Areas where one tectonic plate sinks beneath another
Soil The loose weathered material in which plants grow
Porosity The amount of pore space in a material
Permeability The measure of water's ability to flow through sediment and rock
Mining The process by which commercially valuable resources are removed from the Earth.
Groundwater Overdraft Where groundwater is withdrawn from aquifers faster than natural recharge can replace it.
