| Spyware | malicious software that secretly monitors a user’s activities on a computer or mobile device, such as keystrokes, browsing habits, and personal information |
| Dumpster Diving | a physical security threat where attackers search through discarded papers, containers, or e-waste to find sensitive information like passwords, financial records, or corporate secrets |
| Firewall | a security control rather than a threat. It is a system or device that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules |
| Forgery | the creation of fake documents or digital signatures to impersonate legitimate parties |
| Fraud | a broad category of security threat that encompasses deceptive practices intended to gain unauthorized access to resources, money, or information |
| Identity Theft | occurs when an attacker steals personal information, such as Social Security numbers, login credentials |
| Peer-to-Peer (P2P) | pose a security threat because file-sharing networks can expose computers to malware, viruses, pirated content, or unauthorized access |
| Phishing | to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card numbers |
| Shoulder Surfing | occurs when an attacker observes someone entering confidential information, such as a PIN or password, usually in a public place |
| Snail Mail | threats via postal mail can include receiving fraudulent bills, malicious documents |
| Scams | exploit human trust to steal money or information |
| Anti-Virus Software | designed to detect, prevent, and remove malware and protect computers and mobile devices from cyber threats such as viruses, ransomware, spyware, and phishing. |
| Better Business Bureau | nonprofit organization that promotes trust in the marketplace by evaluating and accrediting businesses |
| Federal Trade Commission | U.S government agency responsible for protecting consumers and promoting competition |
| Equifax | one of the three major credit reporting agencies in the United States |
| TransUnion | U.S based consumer credit reporting agency that collects, analyzes, and provides credit information to businesses and consumers worldwide |
| Experian | global data analytics and consumer credit reporting company that collects, manages, and analyzes information on individuals and businesses to support credit decisions, fraud prevention, and marketing insights |
| Internal Revenue Service | revenue service for the United States federal government, which is responsible for collecting U.S. federal taxes and administering the Internal Revenue Code |
| Solicitations | formal process of requesting offers, bids, or proposals from interested parties |
| Spam | irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the internet, typically to a large number of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware |
