Science
| Atmosphere | the thin envelope of gases that surround the planet |
| Stationary Front | 2 air masses meet and do not move |
| Storm Surge | a "dome" of water that sweeps across the coast where a hurricane lands |
| Air Mass | a huge body of air that has similar temperature |
| Front | the area where air masses meet and do not mix |
| Warm Front | forms when moving warm air mass runs into a slow moving cold air mass - the warm air moves OVER the cold air |
| Cold Front | forms when a rapidly moving cold air mass runs into a slow moving warm air mass causing warm air to rise |
| Occluded Front | forms when a warm air mass is caught between two colder air masses and the warm air mass gets cut off |
| Meteorologist | someone who studies weather |
| Air Pressure | a column of air that exerts a force on you |
| Wind | the movement of air parallel to Earth's surface |
| Jet Stream | a band of high speed wind 6-14 kilometers above Earth's surface |
| Continental Polar | forms over land - cold, dry air mass |
| Continental Tropical | forms over land - warm, dry air mass |
| Maritime Polar | forms over water - cold, humid air mass |
| Maritime Tropical | forms over water - warm humid air mass |
| Evaporation | liquid that gains enough energy to become a gas |
| Condensation | water vapor cools and changes into liquid water |
| Percipitation | water that falls to Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail |
