| Term | Definition |

| University | Learning of the highest level, college of liberal arts and a program of graduate studies together, professional schools. Theology, law, medicine, engineering for both undergraduate and graduate degrees. |
| Community college | Serve a specific community that's typically supported by local government funds. |
| Admissions | The office you send your college applications. |
| Undergraduate | A student who has not received a first, bachelors degree. |
| Graduate | A student who holds the bachelor's and is studying for an advanced degree. |
| Tuition | Charge or fee for instruction. |
| Credit | A unit that measures learning at accredited colleges and universities. |
| Major | Specific area of study you're focusing on. |
| Minor | Secondary area. |
| Bachelor's degree | A degree awarded, to a person who has completed undergraduate studies. |
| Associate's degree | Completion of two years of study. |
| Scholarship | Aid granted, merit, need, to pursue their studies. |
| Grant | A privilege or right. |
| FAFSA | Financial aid from the federal government. |
| Financial Aid | A loan or scholarship to pay for school. |
| State University/college | College that is financially supported by the state government. |
| Liberal Arts | Knowledge, compromising the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, to professional or technical subjects. |
| Humanities | The past, culture, and human values. |
| Private university/college | Student tuition fees, alumni donations, and endowments. |
| Doctorate | Academic degrees, Ph.D. or Ed.D, completing advanced work in graduate school or a professional school. |
| Pre-requisite | Required beforehand. |
| Registrar | Register students, record grades, evaluate academic records, assess, collect tuition and fees. |
| Teaching assistant. | A graduate student, recipient of a teaching fellowship. |
| Transfer | Withdraw from one school. |
| GPA | Points received by the total number of credits or hours course work taken. |
| Dean | The head of a faculty, school, or administrative division. |
| Room and Board | Room as your dorm or housing. |
| Dormitory | Private or semiprivate rooms for residents. |
| Semester | Academic year lasting typically from 15 to 18 weeks. |
| Transcript | Enrollment history including all courses, grades, and degrees. |
