College Vocab

TermDefinition
University Highest level of an institution of learning,that is authorized to confer both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Community College Nonresidential junior college to serve a specific community supported in part by a local government funds.
Admissions The office for sending in your college applications.
Undergraduate A student in a university or college that hasn't received a first degree.
Graduate A student who holds a bachelors or first degree, and is studying for an advanced degree.
Tuition The fee for instruction at a college, university, or private school.
Credit A unit that measures learning at colleges and universities.
Major Specific area of study your focused on while earning your degree.
Minor Secondary area beyond a college major.
Bachelor's degree Degree awarded by college or university to a person that completed undergraduate studies.
Associate's degree Degree awarded by a junior or community college after two years of study.
Scholarship Money granted to a student for various reasons, to continue their studies.
Grant Something given
FAFSA "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" The form you need to get financial aid from the federal government.
Financial Aid Support that is used to pay for school or a higher education.
State university/college College that is financially supported by a state government.
Liberal Arts Academic course at a college to provide general knowledge of the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, as opposed to professional subjects.
Humanities Investigate literature, the past, culture, english, history, and more.
Private university/college A college that relays on student fees and donations to fund their academic program.
Doctorate Several academic degrees f the highest rank awarded by universities or certainc colleges for completing advanced work.
Pre-requisite Beforehand
Registar To register, record, prepare, evaluate, assess, and collect various things.
Teaching Assistant Graduate student who is the recipient of a teaching fellowship.
Transfer Withdrawal from one school and enter another.
Transcript Certified record of a student having full enrollment history
GPA Measure of scholastic attainment. Found by dividing total number of grade points by number of credits.
Dean Head of a faculty, school, or administration in a university or college.
Room and Board Room as your dorm and housing, and board as your meal plan.
Dormitory Building at a college with a number of rooms for residents, wth a common bathroom and recreation areas.
Semester A division for half of the regular academic year, usually 15 to 18 weeks.
