| Term | Definition |

| University | An institution of learning of the highest level, authorized to confer both undergraduate and graduate degrees. |
| Community college | A nonresidential junior college established to serve a specific community. |
| Admissions | The office you apply to send your application. |
| Undergraduate | A student in a university who has not received a first or a bachelor's degree. |
| Graduate | A student who holds the bachelor's or the first proffesional degree, studying for an advanced degree. |
| Tuition | The charge or fee for instruction. |
| Credit | A unit that measures learning. |
| Major | The specific area of study you're focusing on. |
| Minor | A secondary area of specialization. |
| Bachelor's Degree | A degree awarded by a college or university. |
| Associate's Degree | A degree awarded by a junior or community college. |
| Scholarship | A sum of money or other aid granted to a student. |
| Grant | Something granted. |
| FAFSA | The free application for federal student aid, a form to fill out to get any financial aid. |
| Financial Aid | Monetary Support, as a loan or scholarship. |
| State University/college | A college financially supported by a government. |
| Liberal Arts | The academic course of instructions at a college to provide general knowledge and comprising the arts and natural/social sciences. |
| Humanities | Investigate literature, the past, culture, and human values. |
| Private University/college | Rely more heavily on student tuition fees to fund their academic programs. |
| Doctorate | Any of several academic degrees of the highest rank, as the Ph.D or Ed.D. |
| Pre-requisite | Required beforehand. |
| Registrar | Register students, record grades, prepare student transcripts, evaluate academic, record asses, and collect tuition. |
| Teaching assistant | a graduate student in a college or university; teaching fellowship. |
| Transfer | To withdraw from one school and enter another. |
| GPA | A measure of scholastic attainment computed by diving the total number of grade points received by the total number of credits. |
| Dean | The head of faculty. |
| Room and Board | Room as your dorm or housing, board as your meal plan. |
| Dormitory | A building, as at a college, containing a number of private or semiprivate rooms for residents. |
| Semester | A division constituting half of the regular academic year. |
