TermDefinition
University An institution of the highest level having liberal arts and graduate studies, several professional schools, and authorized to confer both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Community College Nonresidential junior college to serve a specific community supported by local governments.
Admissions The office you apply to send college applications
Undergraduate A student in a university or college not received a bachelor's degree
Graduate Student who holds the bachlor's and is studying for an advanced degree
Tuition Charge or fee for a private school or community univerdsity
Credit A unit that measures learning
Major The specific study while earning your degree
Minor A secondary area of specialization
Bacheclor's Degree A degree awarded by a college or university who has completed undergraduate studies
Associate's Degree A degree awarded by a junior or community college after two years of study
Scholarship Sum of money or aid granted to a student to persuree their studies
Grant Something granted, privilege, right, sum of money, or tract of land
FAFSA Free application for federal student aid, the form to fill out to get financial aid
Finantial Aid Monetary support, a loan or scholarship used to pay for school
State University/college a college that is supported by a state of government
Liberal arts Academic course of instruction intended to provide general knowledge as opposed to proffesional or technical subjects
Humanities Investigative literature, the past culture and human values
Private university or college rely more on student tuition fees, alumni donations, and endowments to fund academic programs
Doctorate Several academic degrees of the highest rank awarded for completing advanced work
Pre-Requisite Required beforehand
Registar Register students record grades prepare transcripts, evaluate records and access and collect tuition
Teaching assistant A graduate student who is the recipient of a teaching fellowship
Transfer to withdraw from one school and enter another
Transcript A certified record of a student throughout the course of study having full enrollment history including all courses attempted grades earned and degrees and awards conferred
GPA A measure of scholastic attainment
Dean the head faculty in a university or college
Room and Board Housing including your bed desk heat utilities and wifi and bord as your meal plan
Dormitory A building containing a number of private or semi private rooms for residents
Semester A division consulting half of the regular academic year lasting 15 to 18 weeks
