Academic and Concept Vocabulary

Retort A quick, sometimes angry or clever reply to someone.
Commendable Something that deserves praise or respect.
Rectify To check or prove that something is true.
Speculate To guess about something without all the facts.
Verify To check or prove that something is true.
Claim A statement that someone believes is true but must be proven.
Sound reasoning the logical, sensible way that the author presents their claim and supports it with solid evidence.
Evidence Facts or information used to support an idea or argument.
Counterargument An argument made to oppose another argument.
Irrelevant evidence Information that does not relate to the topic being discussed.
Problematic Causing difficulty or trouble.
Aggression Angry or violent behavior toward others.
Pathological Related to a disease or medical or mental condition.
Impairment A condition that makes it hard to see, hear, move or learn.
Disorder A condition that affects the body or mind and causes problems.
Habit Something you do regularly, often without thinking.
Controversy A disagreement or debate among people with different opinions.
Meditating Focusing the mind quietly for relaxation or awareness.
Spatial Related to space, position, or movement in an area.
Stimulates To make something more active or excited.
Neurotransmitter A chemical in the brain that sends messages between nerve cells.
Visuomotor Related to coordinating what you see with how you move.
Cognitive Related to thinking, learning, and understanding.
Rebuttal A response that proves an opposing argument is wrong.
