A circumferential cast enclosing the trunk of the body. Body Cast
A chest to groin cast, in which the patient is positioned so the trunk is flexed forward Flexion Body Cast
A cast from groin to chest, in which the patient is positioned so that the trunk is extended posteriorly. Extension Body Cast
A special modification of the body cast, used in preoperative treatment of scoliosis. Scoliosis Cast
For cervical fractures, the cast extends from the thoracic to the pelvic level incorporating the necessary extensions used to support metal posts that are attached to the halo, which is skeletally attached to the head. Halo Cast
A cast immobilization extending upward along the side and behind the head and neck, incorporating a cast headband. Minerva jackets are used in fractures of the neck and certain scoliosis problems. Minerva Jacket
A spica cast is used to immobilize an appendage, by incorporating a part of the body proximal to that appendage. Spica Casts
A long arm cast extending from the wrist, distally, to just below the axilla proximally, allowing free wrist motion, but fixing the elbow at a given range. Long Arm Cylinder Casts
This cast is applied around both shoulders, crossing in the back to form a figure eight. It is still occasionally used in the treatment of clavicular fractures. However, it is more common to use a soft figure eight dressing for clavicular fractures. Figure Eight Casts
A short arm cast, extending from slightly above or proximal to the wrist to some point in the palm. This type of cast usually has some outrigger to control one or more digits. Used for metacarpal, phalangeal fractures or dislocation. Gauntlet Cast
long arm cast, made of plaster of paris (synthetic will not do) - extends proximally from axilla, distally to incorporate wrist & hand. a hanging loop in this cast allows for traction on proximal third of arm. exclusively for fx of the humerus. Hanging Arm Cast
Any sequence of casts used in a progressive correction of deformity. Serial Casts
Hard rubber wedge, removable shoe or walking iron incorporated into the sole of a cast to allow walking or partial weight bearing on the leg while in the cast. Walker (SLWC)
An incomplete circumferential cutting of the cast and application of casting tape over the same area, once the manipulation has been performed, to change bony position (angle). Wedge
Removal of a segment of cast with closing of that wedge with manipulation and re-application of casting tape. Closing Wedge
A circumferentially cut cast, that is open by manipulation and then correction is covered with casting tape to maintain the position. Open Wedge
