Civil War Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Cavalry The part of military force which serves on horseback.
Confederacy The eleven states that seceded from the United States to form their own country.
Union The United Sates of America.
Yankee Comon term for a union soldier.
Rebel Common term for a confederate soldier.
Infantry Group of men who travel and fight on foot.
Gettysburg Address A two-minute speech by President Lincon at a ceremony dedicating the Battlefield as a National Cemetery.
Emancipation Proclamation Issued by President Lincon freeing all slaves.
Civil War People from the same country fighting against each other.
Secede To leave the union.
