Civil War VOUCABULARY

TermDefinition
Calvary That part of military force which serves on horseback.
Confederacy The 11 states that seceded from the United States to form their own country .
Union The United States of America.
Yankee Common term for a Union soldier .
Rebel Common term for a Confederate soldier.
Infantry Group of men who travel and fight on foot.
Gettysburg Address Two-minute speech by President Lincoln at a ceremony dedicating the Battlefield as a National Cemetery.
Emancipation Proclamation Issued by President Lincoln freeing all slaves.
Civil War People from the same country fighting against each other.
Secede TO leave the Union.
