Earth's Water Distribution

Most of the water on Earth is found in the oceans. What kind of water is this? Saltwater; About 97% of Earth’s water is saltwater in the oceans.
If you had 100 buckets to represent all the water on Earth, how many would be freshwater? 3 buckets; Only about 3% of Earth’s water is freshwater.
Where is the largest amount of Earth’s freshwater stored? Ice caps and glaciers; Most freshwater is frozen and not easily accessible.
What is water found underground in cracks and spaces of soil and rock called? Groundwater; This is water stored beneath Earth’s surface.
Which is an example of liquid surface freshwater? A lake or river; This is freshwater we can easily see and use.
Why is it important to protect freshwater sources? Because most of Earth’s water is salty and we cannot drink it; Freshwater is limited and essential for life.
What is the most accessible water for humans to use? Lakes and rivers are easy for humans to reach and use.
Where is Earth’s freshwater mostly located? Glaciers & Ice Caps → ~70% Groundwater → ~29% Lakes & Rivers → ~1%
If Earth has so much water, why do we have water shortages? Most water is saltwater (not drinkable) Much freshwater is frozen in glaciers Name two places where freshwater is found on Earth’s surface.Very little is accessible for humans.
