| Stress | Force that acts on rock to change its shape or volume there are 3 kinds on the Earth |
| Tension | Pulls on Earth's crust stretching the rocks to make it thinner |
| Commpression | Squeezes rock until it bends or breaks, causing mountains |
| Shearing | Rock is being pushed in two opposite directions to the point that it bends or breaks causes folds or faults causes Earthquakes |
| Normal Fault | Hanging wall slips down relative to the footwall this is in a divergent boundary and a tension stress |
| Fault | Is the break in the rock of Earth's crust or mantle three kinds on Earth |
| Reverse Fault | Hanging wall slides up and over the footwall this is in a convergent boundary and a compression stress |
| Strike -Slip Fault | Walls of rock grind past each other in opposite directions this is in a Transform boundary and a shearing stress |
| Earthquake | Shaking and trembling result of the sudden release of stress produces a great amount of energy that moves the tectonic plate |
| Seismic Waves | vibrations that travel through Earth carrying energy, three types of waves P, S, Rolling waves like ocean |
