| Term | Definition |

| Natural resource | materials or substances occurring in nature that can be used for economic gain (ex. fresh water, minerals, energy sources) |
| Renewable resource | natural resource which will replenish to replace the portion depleted by usage and consumption |
| Nonrenewable resource | finite natural materials that cannot be replenished on a human timescale |
| Solar Energy | a renewable source from light and heat harnessed directly from the sun to create electricity or provide warmth |
| Hydro Energy | renewable energy source that generates electricity by using the kinetic energy of flowing or falling water to turn turbines |
| Wind Energy | renewable form of energy that harnesses the kinetic energy of moving air (wind) to generate electricity |
| Geothermal Energy | renewable and sustainable energy source extracted from heat stored beneath the Earth’s surface, originating from the planet's formation and radioactive decay |
| Biomass Energy | renewable energy generated from organic materials (living or recently living plants and animals) that can be burned directly or converted into biofuels or biogas to produce heat and electricity |
| Fossil Fuels | non-renewable, natural energy sources (ex. coal, crude oil, and natural gas) |
| Pollution | the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects. |
| Mitigation | the action of reducing the severity, seriousness, or painfulness of something. |
| Finite | having limits or bounds; will run out |
| Conservation policies | create standards of maintaining and restoring a healthy Earth environment |
