ch 8
types of skeletal muscle contraction
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| twitch contractions | laboratory phenomena/ not normal muscle activity; single contraction of muscle fibers caused by single threshold stimulus |
| tetanic contractions | sustained muscular contractions caused by stimuli hitting a muscle in rapid succession |
| isotonic contraction | produces movement at joint bc muscle changes length |
| concentric contraction | muscle shortens at insertion end of muscle to move toward point of origin |
| eccentric contraction | the muscle lengthens under tension, thus moving insertion away from origin |
| most types of movements | are isotonic contractions |
| isometric contractions | contractions that don't produce movement, muscle doesn't shorten, although it doesn't move muscle tension increases |
