poetic technqiues

QuestionAnswer
alliteration where similar sounds are placed at the beginning of words that are near each other
metaphor a figure of speech which describes something by saying it is something else - without using the words 'like' or 'as'
enjambment the continuation of a sentece of poetry over multiple lines
imagery the name given to elements of a poem that create pictures and images in your head
personification attributing human ideas or actions to non human objects
simile a comparison that states two things are like each other - using the words 'like' or 'as'
symbol an object, person, colour, or action that stands for a deeper, hidden idea beyond its literal meaning
