Electricity vocabulary, and brain pop video
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Conductor | A material that transmit Its or allows, electrical energy ( electrons ) to flow. |
| Insulator | A material that prevents electrical energy ( electrons) to flow |
| Proton | A positively charged particle located in the nucleus of an atom |
| Electron | A negatively charged particle that orbits the nucleus in the cloud |
| Voltage | A measure of the difference in electrical potential between objects that have opposite charges |
| Resistance | A measure of how difficult it is for electrons to flow |
| Current electricity | The movement of electrons which creates the flow of electricity |
| Electrical circuit | An electrical device which provides a specific path for electric current or electrons to flow |
| Parallel Circuit | Circuit with more than one conducting path for current to flow. Allows multiple appliances to be turned on and off independently. |
| Series circuit | Circuit with a single conducting path for current to flow. When multiple appliances are connected, if one is turned on the other will be turned on as well. |
| Static electricity | The buildup of electric charge on an object. The charge remains on the object until it flows into the ground for as quickly discharged. |
| Electricity | The flow of electrical charges used to produce light and heat and to run motors. It is the result of the movement of electrons |
| Energy source | Powers a turbine to run a generator |
| Generator | Turns large copper coils inside huge magnets, producing electricity |
| Transformer | Sends the electric current to the powerlines |
| Electrical charge | The charge a proton or electron has protons have a positive charge electrons have a negative charge |
| Insulators | Material materials like plastic rubber cloth, and glass that hold electrons tightly |
| Conductors | Materials that let electrons move more freely. Most metals are good conductors of electricity. |
| Watts | The units used to measure electricity |
| Load component | A toaster |
| Open Circiut | Broken circuit where electrons can not flow |
| closed circut | unbroken circuit electrons can flow |
