biconcave, anucleate disc, salmon colored: takes 15 days to generate: last 100-120 days erythrocytes
fancy name for white blood cells: spherical nucleated discs: leukocytes
nucleus multilobed, inconspicuous cytoplasmic granules takes about 14 days to generate: last about 6 hours to a few days: their job is to phagocytize bacteria. neutrophil
nucleus bilobed, red cytoplasmic granules takes about 14 days to generate, and last up to 5 days: kill parasitic worms, complex role in allergy and asthma eosinophil
nucleus bilobed: large purplish-black cytoplasmic granules takes about 1- 7 days to generate and usually last few hours or up to a few days: release histamine and other mediators of inflammation: contain heparin (anticoagulant) basophil
