Eye quiz

QuestionAnswer
ora serrata anterior edge of posterior chamber
ciliary body anterior extension of choroid that encircles lens. includes ciliary muscle and ciliary process
ciliary muscle is attached to and controls shape of lens via the suspensory ligaments
cornea anterior extension of sclera, refract light and handles 3/4 focusing capacity of eye
iris - regulates light entering posterior chamber of eye through pupil - plays role in formation of clear images by preventing light rays from entering eye via the periphery of lens - sphincter pupillae muscle and dilatory pupillae muscle
pupil middle part of lens
anterior segment (chamber) filled with aqueous humor from ciliary process
lens - composed of crystallin, surrounded by CT - contributes to focusing light rays on retina - only refractive media that change change its effect on bending of light rays
scleral venous sinus (canal of Schlemm) encircles cornea, absorbs aqueous humor from anterior chamber into blood
posterior segment (chamber) filled with vitreous humor
optic disc where optic nerve exits from back of eye
fovea centralis where cones are found, pit in the macula lutea
macula lutea holds fovea centralis (ABOVE IT ON DIAGRAM)
retina - lines posterior chamber of eye (YELLOW ON DIAGRAM) - contains photoreceptors (rods and cones) for vision and bipolar + ganglion cells
choroid middle vascular layer, provides nutrition to other layers, has melanin to prevent internal reflection
sclera - white of eye, tough outermost layer - where extrinsic eye muscles have their insertion - fibrous CT provides support
superior oblique - origin: optic foramen in sphenoid - trochlear nerve
inferior oblique - origin: maxilla - oculomotor nerve
superior rectus - origin: optic foramen in sphenoid - oculomotor nerve
medial rectus - origin: optic foramen in sphenoid - oculomotor nerve
lateral rectus - origin: optic foramen in sphenoid - abducens nerve
inferior rectus - origin: optic foramen in sphenoid - oculomotor nerve
ciliary muscle is effector for the accommodation reflex
glaucoma blockage of scleral venous sinus. fluid buildup compresses and damages neurons at back of eye causing blindness
corneal opacity cornea loses its clarity
presbyopia stiffening of the lens, inability to see close
cataracts clouding of the lens
phacoemulsification extraction of lens followed by lens implant
blind spot of optic disc where no rods/cones are present, "filling in" occurs

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
