acute triangle A triangle with no angle measuring 90 degrees or more
equilateral triangle A triangle whose 3 sides are all the same length
isosceles triangle A triangle with at least two equal sides
kite A quadrilateral with 2 sets of equal sides and in which those equal sides are next to each other
obtuse triangle A triangle with one angle measuring more than 90 degrees
parallel lines lines that never cross one another and are the same distance apart at all times
parallelogram A quadrilateral with two sets of parallel congruent lines
plane figure A two dimensional shape, sometimes called a close figure.
polygon A closed figure made up of line segments
quadrilateral A polygon with 4 sides
rectangle A parallelogram with 4 right angles
rhombus A parallelogram with 4 congruent sides
right triangle A triangle with one angle that measures 90 degrees
scalene triangle A triangle with no equal sides
square A parallelogram with 4 right angles and congruent sides
trapeziod A quadrilateral with at least one set of parallel sides

base A special face of a solid figure
cone A three- dimensional figure with one circular base
cube A three-dimensional figure made of 6 congruent sides

edge A line segment where 2 faces meet
diameter The distance across a circle through the center
face A plane figure that is one side of a solid figure
lateral face Any face that is not a base
lateral surface Any vertical surface that is not a face or base
prism A three-dimensional figure with two parallel, congruent, polygonal faces and parallelograms for all faces.
pyramid A three-dimensional figure with a polygon base and a triangle for all other faces
solid figure Geometric figure with 3 dimensions
vertex point where 3 or more edges meet
net A two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional shape when unfolded
square units A unit used to measure area
surface area The total area of all the faces or surfaces of a three-dimensional figure.
integer A number belonging to the set made up of the whole numbers and their opposites.
natural number A number belonging to the set made of counting numbers 1, 2, 3 and so on
negative numbers A number that is less than zero
number line A line that graphically represents all numbers
opposite numbers Two numbers that are the same distance from zero on the number line but in opposite directions.
positive number A number that is greater than zero.
whole number Any number belonging to a set of numbers or zero
zero pair A pair of numbers whose sum is zero.
coordinate plane A two-dimensional system in which a location is described by its distance from two intersecting, perpendicular axes.
ordered pair A group of two number written in the order (x,y) where the first value represents a horizontal position and the second a vertical
origin The intersection of the x axis and y axis.
quadrants The four sections of a coordinate plane.
x-axis The horizontal axis on the coordinate plane.
y-axis The vertical axis on the coordinate plane.
x-coordinate The horizontal distance from the y-axis written first in an ordered pair.
y-coordinate The vertical distance from the x-axis, written second in an ordered pair,
