What is Imperialism? A policy where a country tries to have control over other places.
What are the three Imperialism Causes for U.S.? Economics, Competition, White Mans Burden
What are Imperialism Effects on U.S.? The U.S. increased its influence, and became more powerful.
What is Isolationism? When a country chooses to stay out of other countries’ issues.
What are Isolationism Effects on U.S.? The U.S. avoided wars with other countries and focused on its own economy and people.
What is Economics? Money, resources, and trade.
What is Competition? To prove and show strength/power.
What is White Man's Burden? Wrongfully "teaching" modern beliefs on other cultures to make them more like American or European societies.
Who was Queen Liliuokalani? The last queen of Hawaii.
What are the two important resources in Hawaii that the U.S. wanted? Sugar and Fruit
Why did the U.S. want control of Hawaii? For land and resources.
What effect did controlling Hawaii have on the U.S.? They gained resources, land, and money.
What is the Panama Canal? A canal that makes trade and travel easier.
Why did the U.S. want control of the Panama Canal? They wanted faster trade, economic growth, and military advantage.
What oceans does the Panama Canal connect? Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
What effects did controlling the Panama Canal have on the U.S.? Allowed control over important world areas increased trade.
What country is the Panama Canal located? Panama
What was the Spanish American War? U.S. declared war on Spain in to help Cuba gain independence.
What two resources did the U.S. want from Cuba? Sugar and tobacco.
Who were the Rough Riders? Volunteer soldiers on horseback led by U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt during the Spanish-American War.
Who were the Buffalo Soldiers? African American soldiers who fought in the Spanish-American War.
What did the Treaty of Paris do? Officially ended the Spanish-American War.
How did the American-Filipino War start? The U.S. betrayed the Philippines by promising independence but not giving it.
What were the effects of the American-Filipino War? Weakened Filipino resistance and led to the Philippines becoming an American colony.
Why is the American-Filipino War important? Showed the cost of imperialism.
How much did the U.S. pay for the Philippines? $20 Million
Who was Emilio Aguinaldo? Military Leader during American-Filipino War and 1st Filipino President.
