Germans Push Back

TermDefinition
Eddie Rickenbacker — A famous American fighter pilot in World War I who flew many combat missions and became a national hero for his bravery and skill in the air.
Convoy system — A method used during wartime where groups of merchant ships travel together with armed military ships escorting them to protect against enemy submarines and attacks.
Belleau Wood — The name of a tough and important World War I battle in France where American Marines fought bravely in a dense forest to stop a German advance.
Armistice — An agreement between warring countries to stop fighting; for World War I, the armistice ended the fighting on November 11, 1918.
Second Battle of the Marne — A major World War I battle in 1918 near the Marne River in France where Allied forces stopped a big German offensive and began pushing them back.
Epidemic — A sudden outbreak of a disease that spreads quickly through a large number of people in a community, region, or country.
Alvin York — An American soldier in World War I known for his bravery who led a small group to capture many enemy soldiers and was awarded medals for his actions.
