| Term | Definition |

| Fertilization | The joining together of a male sperm cell and a female egg cell. |
| Embryo | A developing organism from the time of fertilization to about the eighth week of development. |
| Fetus | A developing organism from the end of the eighth week of the mother's pregnancy until birth. |
| Placenta | A thick, rich tissue that lines the walls of the uterus during pregnancy and that nourishes the fetus. |
| Umbilical Cord | A tube that connects the fetus and the mother's placenta. |
| Cervix | The entrance of the uterus. |
| Scrotum | Muscular sac that contains the testes |
| Vas Deferense | Tubes that extend from each epididymis to the urethra. |
| Sperm | The male sex cell that enters the egg cell during fertilization. |
| Epididymis | A network of tubes in which the sperm mature and are stored temporarily. |
| Testes | Two small glands that produce sperm and hormones. |
| Testosterone | Primary male sex hormone |
| Pituitary Gland | Gland that signals other endocrine glands to produce hormones when needed. |
| Endocrine System | The body's chemical communication system that regulates many functions. |
| Estrogen | Female sex hormone |
| Ovulation | The release of one mature egg cell each month. |
| Menstruation | Lining material, the unfertilized egg, and some blood flow out of the body. |
| Uterus | A pear shaped organ inside a female's body where a fetus is protected and nourished. |
| Vagina | A muscular passage-way from the uterus to outside the body. |
| Egg | The reproductive cell from the female that joins with a sperm cell to make a new life. |
| Endometrium | The lining of the uterus. |
| Abstinence | The conscious, active choice not to participate in high-risk behaviors. |
