TermDefinition
Bivariate Data a set of data that is made of two paired variables
Box Plot a graph that shows how data are distributed by using the median, quartiles, minimum, and maximum
Categorical Data data that are qualitative in nature, such as “liberal,” “moderate,” and “conservative”
Causation a correlation between two variables where one actually causes the other to change
Constant a value that does not change
Correlation a measure of the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables or data sets
Correlation Coefficient a number r, where –1 ≤ r ≤ 1, that describes how closely the points in a scatter plot cluster around the least-squares line.
Dot Plot a number line with marks or dots that show frequency
First Quartile the median of the lower half of a data set. Also called lower quartile; Q1
Two-Way Frequency Table a frequency table that displays two-variable data in rows and columns.
Histogram a bar graph used to display data grouped in intervals
Interquartile Range the difference of the third (upper) and first (lower) quartiles in a data set, representing the middle half of the data
Line of Best Fit (trend line) the line that comes closest to all of the points in a data set. It helps show the correlation between data sets on a scatter plot more clearly.
Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) the mean distance between each data value and the mean of the data set
Quantitative Data numerical data
Range the difference of the greatest and least values in a data set
Scatter Plot a graph with points plotted to show a possible relationship between two sets of data
Second Quartile the median of an entire data set, denoted Q2
Standard Deviation measure of the amount of variation in a data set. The standard deviation σ is the square root of the variance.
Univariate Data data that involves only one variable
Third Quartile The median of the upper half of a data set. Also called upper quartile; Q3

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
