unicameral A single-chamber legislature
Bicameral Relative to a two-house legislative body.
Lieutenant Governor- - Elected official serving as deputy to the governor.
Special session- - A specially called meeting of the legislature, typically to deal with pressing problems.
Blanket Primary- Blanket Primary- A primary in which all candidates are place in same primary ballot, regardless of party
County- County- The largest political subdivision of a state.
County Board- County Board- The governing body of most counties.
Zoning Code- Zoning Code- A rule that specifies how land in particular parts of a city or county can be used.
Municipality- Municipality- An urban unit of government chartered by a state
Ordinance- Ordinance- A law at the local level.
Township- Township- A unit of local government found in some states, usually a subdivision of a county.
Town Meeting- Town Meeting- Meeting called by elected official to get input from their constituents.
Direct Democracy- Direct Democracy- Form of government wherein citizens rule themselves rather than electing representatives to govern.
Special District- Special District- Unit of local government that deals with specific functions.
Public policy- A plan of action adopted by government decision makers to solve a problem or reach a goal
Mass transit Mass transit- A public transportation network, consisting of buses, trains, subways, or other forms of public transportation.
