QuestionAnswer
What is topography? The shape of the land determined by elevation, relief, and landforms.
What is a land form? A feature on the surface of earth, such as a coastline, dune, Delta, or mountain.
What is constructive forces? Forces that construct or build up land to make new land forms.
What is a Destructive force? Forces that wear away or destroy landmasses to make new, smaller land forms (wind, rain, ice, and fire)
What is Elevation? The height of an object above sea level.
What is relief? The difference in elevation between two points, subtracting the lowest elevation from the highest elevation in an area.
What is a mountain? A land form with high elevation and high relief.
What is a plateau? A land form with high elevation and low relief.
What is a plain? A land form with low elevation and low relief.
What is a coastline? A line that forms the boundary between the land and the ocean or a lake.
What is a dune? A hill of sand piled up by the wind.
What is a River? a natural stream of water that flows into another body of water, such as an ocean, lake, or another river.
What is a Delta? A land form made of sediment that is deposited where a river flows into ocean or lake.
What is surveying? A process in which mapmakers determined distances and elevations using instruments and the principles of geometry.
What is a model? An exact copy of something on a much smaller scale.
What is Ariel Photography? Photographs taken with camera's mounted in airplanes.
What is satelite imagery? Pictures of the earth made by computers interpreting satelite data
What is GPS? A navigational system that uses satelite signals to fix location of a radio receiver on earth.
What is GIS? A system of computer hardware and software used to produce interactive maps. Uses GPS, satelite images, statistics about an area, and other maps to display and analyze geographic data.
