| Narrator | speaker or the person who is telling the story |
| Expository | text that informs, gives instructions and is nonfiction |
| Fiction | literary work that is not real. It is usually made up. |
| Foreshadow | clues that indicate something will happen later on in the story or future |
| Metaphor | a comparison of two unlike things without using like or as |
| Setting | when and where the story takes place |
| Plot | the sequence of events in a story |
| Flash Back | when the story goes back in time |
| Hyperbole | an exaggeration |
| Conflict | the problem of the story |
| Dialogue | a conversation between 2 people |
| Onomatopoeia | words that represents sounds |
| Stage Directions | instructions for actors |
| Context Clues | clues in text that help the reader determine the meaning of a word |
| Suffix | a word part that can be added to the end of a word to make a new word |
| Text Features | parts of a text that stand out (diagram, table of contents, etc) |
| Stanza | the "paragraph" in a poem |
| Resolution | the solution to a problem or final outcome of a story |
| Personification | giving human qualities to non-human things |
| Prefix | a word part that can be added to the beginning of a word to make a new word |
| Simile | comparing two things using like or as |
| Autobiography | the story of a person's life written by that person |
| Summary | a brief statement of main events of a story |
| Drawings Conclusion | collecting clues to make in inference |
