Medical Office Seek & Find — Descriptions

QuestionAnswer
Examination Light A bright, adjustable light used during physical exams. Helps the provider see specific areas clearly, like the throat, ears, or skin.
Ophthalmoscope A handheld device used to examine the inside of the eyes, including the retina and optic nerve.
Otoscope Used to look inside the ears to check for infections, wax buildup, or abnormalities.
Reflex Hammer Tool used to test deep tendon reflexes in the knees, elbows, and ankles to assess the nervous system.
Autoclave A machine that sterilizes instruments using high-pressure steam. Ensures tools are free of bacteria and viruses.
Sphygmomanometer Blood pressure cuff used to measure a patient’s blood pressure.
Pulse Oximeter Clips onto a finger to measure oxygen saturation and pulse rate.
Stethoscope Used to listen to heartbeats, lung sounds, and bowel sounds.
Pediatric Scale Scale designed to accurately weigh infants and small children.
Tape Measure Used to measure head circumference in infants, wound size, or body measurements.
Snellen Chart Eye chart used to test visual acuity (the big E chart).
Thermometer Measures body temperature to detect fever or hypothermia.
Incubator A temperature-controlled unit used to grow and maintain microbiological cultures or sometimes keep newborn lab samples at a set temperature.
Oxygen Tank Supplies oxygen to patients who need help maintaining adequate blood oxygen levels.
Tuning Fork Used for hearing tests and vibration sense evaluations (neurological exams).
Vaginal Speculum A device used during a pelvic exam to open the vaginal canal so the cervix can be visualized.
