3 things to know 1.) Antigen specific: recognizes and acts against particular pathogens or foreign substances 2.) Is symmetric: Immunity is not restricted to the initial infection site. 3.) Has memory: Recognizes/mounts even stronger attacks on encountered pathogens
Humoral Immunity (antibody-mediated Immunity) provided by antibodies present in the body's fluids
Cellular Immunity (cell-mediated Immunity) lymphocytes themselves defend the body by sensing 'targets' either directly or indirectly and destroying them
Antigens Any substance capable of exciting our immune system and providing an immune response. (Most are large, complex molecules that aren't normally present in our bodies)(Foreign intruders)
