| Third person limited | a narrative that follows one person's perspective/POV |
| Third person omniscient | a narrative where the narrator knows all the characters' thoughts, feelings, and emotions. |
| Central Theme (literature) | the big idea or lesson that everyone can relate to, applies to life beyond the story |
| Central Idea (informational) | Primary, overarching message or main point the author wants to convey, summary of text |
| Revision/Revised | the act of improving or altering something |
| Formal vs Informal tone | being polite, precise, and professional versus being conversational, personal, and more direct |
| Objective summary | shows main ideas and important details without using opinions |
| Conclusion | the end or finish of an event or process |
| Claim or Counterclaim | state of assert that something is the case with evidence or « opposing a claim |
| Perspective (more of an opinion) | the view point through which a character experiences and understands events |
| Point of View/POV (who's telling it) | a narrative in which a story is told from |
| Primary Purpose | the motivation behind the author writing the story, the goal of the story, reason for existence |
| Relevant vs Irrelevant | relevant helps clarify and directly connects but irrelevant distracts and adds no value |
| Primary or Primarily | describes the most important or fundamental aspect od something |
| Connotation | the emotional, cultural, or implied meaning associated with a word |
| Emphasis | special, importance, value, or prominence given to something |
| Contribute | to give or provide jointly with others, give to a common fund |
| Inference 1/Infer 2/Inferred 3 | 1. drawing a logical conclusion based on evidence 2. verb form of inference 3. type of electromagnification radiation with wavelengths |
| Omit/Omission | eave out, exclude, or fail to do something, while omission (noun) is the act or state of leaving something out, or the item itself that was excluded |
| Anaolgy | a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification |
| Allusion | an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly (indirect or passing reference) |
| Antonym | a word that has the exact opposite meaning of another word |
| Synonym | a word that means exactly or nearly the same as another word |
| Interrogative | a word, phrase, oe sentence structure used to ask direct or indirect questions |
| Indicative | the mood of a verb used to make direct statements of fact, express opinions, or ask questions |
| Subjunctive | a grammatical mood expressing doubt, desire, hypothetical situations, or unreal states instead of facts |
| Imperative (noun/objective) | in essential or urgent thing/vital importance |
| Conditional | subject to one or more conditions or requirements being met |
| Stanza | a grouped set of lines within a poem |
| Transition/Transitional Phrase | a word or phrase that acts like a bridge between ideas, sentences, or paragraphs, to improve the flow and organization |
| Dialogue | a conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie |
| Ellipsis | the omission from speech or writing of a word or words that are unnecessary or able to be understood from context clues |
| Maintain Focus | staying on topic, sticking to the main idea, and not letting your writing or reading wander |
| Acknowledge and Opposing Viewpoint | respectfully identifying, summarizing, and addressing arguments that challenge your own views/thesis |
| Concise/Precise | giving the relevant or necessary information clearly and in a few words-brief but comprehensive/exact and accurate |
| Convey Meaning | transport or carry to a place |
| Active 1 v.s. Passive 2 Voice | 1. occurs when the subject preforms the action 2. occurs when the subject receives the action |
