Types of Phishing

TermDefinition
Phishing When someone sends a fake email pretending to be a real company or person
Smishing Phishing through SMS (text messages)
Spear Phishing A more personal phishing attack where the scammer targets you individually, not thousands of people
Pretexting When someone makes up a fake story to get your information
Baiting When someone offers something tempting like a free game download
Scareware When a message pops up on your screen and attempts to scare you into downloading fake software or paying money
Vishing Phishing using a voice call, when someone calls pretending to be the bank, the IRS, a family member in trouble, etc.
